Using WorldEdit on Your Minecraft Server

Explains how to install and use WorldEdit to quickly edit large areas on your Minecraft server.

Want to quickly copy, delete, or fill large areas on your server? In this article, we explain how to install and use WorldEdit.

What is WorldEdit?

WorldEdit is a powerful building and editing plugin/mod that lets builders and operators quickly adjust large selections of blocks, without doing this manually block by block.

Installing via the Plugin Manager

The easiest way to install plugins is through our built-in Plugin Manager. You don't have to download anything yourself.

  1. Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
  2. Click More at the bottom of the menu, then Plugins.
  3. Search for WorldEdit. Use the filters at the top to filter by name, plugin loader, and Minecraft version.
  4. Click the download icon on the plugin's tile to install it.
  5. Restart the server.

Can't find the plugin? Download the .jar file yourself from a trusted source and upload it via Files → plugins. See our article How Do I Add a Plugin to My Server? for the full manual steps.

Note: Running a Fabric or Forge server with the mod version of WorldEdit? Then install it like other mods, via the mods folder instead of the Plugin Manager.

Basic usage

First select an area with the wooden axe (default WorldEdit tool), or use commands:

//pos1
//pos2
//set stone
//copy
//paste
//undo
  • //pos1 and //pos2 mark the two corners of your selection.
  • //set fills the selection with a chosen block.
  • //copy and //paste copy and paste a selection.
  • //undo undoes the last WorldEdit action.

Note: Only give WorldEdit permissions to trusted builders or operators. In the wrong hands, a single command can accidentally delete a large part of your world.

Troubleshooting

  • Commands do not work: check whether the player has the correct WorldEdit permission (for example via LuckPerms).
  • Large edits briefly freeze the server: this is normal with very large selections, it is one-time and resolves itself.
