Resetting a Single Dimension on Your Minecraft Server (Nether or End)
Explains how to regenerate only the Nether or the End on your Minecraft server, without losing your main world.
Want to refresh only the Nether or the End, without losing your main world (Overworld)? In this article, we explain how that works.
Note: This permanently deletes everything in that dimension, including any player builds. Always make a backup first.
Step 1. Make a backup
- Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
- Go to Backups and click Create Backup.
- Wait until the backup is complete.
Step 2. Delete the correct dimension folder
- Stop the server.
- Go to the File Manager.
- For the Nether: delete the
world_netherfolder (or theDIM-1folder inside your main world folder, depending on the server software). - For the End: delete the
world_the_endfolder (orDIM1). - Start the server again. Minecraft will automatically regenerate the deleted dimension as soon as someone travels there.
Note: Never delete the
worldfolder itself if you only want to reset the Nether or End, this is your main world (Overworld) and would also be lost.
Troubleshooting
- Old structures (portals) are still in the wrong place: this is normal, existing portals in the Overworld remain, but the dimension behind them is newly generated.
- Players fall into the void when traveling: check whether you deleted the correct folder name that corresponds to your server software.
