How Do I Require Players to Accept a Resource Pack?

Explains how to configure your Minecraft Java server to require players to download and accept a resource pack.

In this article, we explain how to set up a resource pack that players are required to download in order to connect to your Minecraft Java server.

What does this do?

Normally, players can decline a server resource pack. With the require-resource-pack setting, you force players to accept the pack. If they decline, they are automatically kicked from the server.

Setting up the resource pack

  1. Upload your resource pack (.zip file) somewhere the server can offer it from.
  2. Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
  3. Go to Files and open server.properties.
  4. Fill in the direct download link to your .zip file under resource-pack.
  5. Fill in the SHA1 hash of the file under resource-pack-sha1 (optional, but prevents warnings).
  6. Set require-resource-pack to true.
  7. Save the file and restart the server.

Note: Make sure the resource pack download link is always reachable. If the link goes offline or breaks, players will no longer be able to connect to your server.

Troubleshooting

  • Players do not get a prompt to accept the pack: check whether the download link works and whether resource-pack is filled in correctly.
  • Players get kicked immediately: this happens intentionally if they decline the pack or if downloading fails, check the file size and the link.
  • "Invalid resource pack" error: the SHA1 hash does not match the file, remove the hash or regenerate it.
