Installing an Anti-Cheat Plugin on Your Minecraft Server
Explains how to install an anti-cheat plugin (such as Matrix or Grim) on your Minecraft server to prevent cheating.
Having trouble with players using hacks or cheats? In this article, we explain how to install an anti-cheat plugin.
Known anti-cheat plugins
- Matrix — popular, actively maintained anti-cheat for Paper servers.
- Grim Anti-Cheat — extensive, accurate detection, suitable for PvP-focused servers.
- NoCheatPlus — free and open-source, simpler to configure.
Note: Anti-cheat plugins only work on Spigot/Paper servers with plugins, not on Vanilla or mod servers.
Installing via the Plugin Manager
The easiest way to install plugins is through our built-in Plugin Manager. You don't have to download anything yourself.
- Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
- Click More at the bottom of the menu, then Plugins.
- Search for your preferred anti-cheat plugin (e.g. Matrix, Grim, or NoCheatPlus). Use the filters at the top to filter by name, plugin loader, and Minecraft version.
- Click the download icon on the plugin's tile to install it.
- Restart the server.
Can't find the plugin? Download the
.jarfile yourself from a trusted source and upload it via Files → plugins. See our article How Do I Add a Plugin to My Server? for the full manual steps.
Configuring
Most anti-cheat plugins work right after installation with default settings. Through the config file in the plugins folder, you can adjust the sensitivity per check, for example to reduce false positives.
Note: An overly strict anti-cheat can unfairly punish normal players, for example on a high ping connection. Test changes calmly with trusted players before enabling this server-wide.
Troubleshooting
- Many false positives: lower the sensitivity in the configuration, or check whether the plugin is compatible with other movement-related plugins.
- Anti-cheat detects nothing: check whether the plugin loaded correctly in the startup log and whether your server version is supported.
