Setting Up Cross-Play Between Java and Bedrock (Geyser/Floodgate)
Explains how to use Geyser and Floodgate to let Bedrock players connect to your Minecraft Java server.
Want Bedrock players (mobile, console, Windows 10/11) to be able to connect to your Java server? In this article, we explain how to set this up with Geyser and Floodgate.
What are Geyser and Floodgate?
- Geyser is a plugin/proxy that "translates" the Bedrock protocol to Java, allowing Bedrock players to connect to a Java server.
- Floodgate allows Bedrock players to log in without a separate Java account, linking their Bedrock name to a temporary Java profile.
Installing via the Plugin Manager
The easiest way to install plugins is through our built-in Plugin Manager. You don't have to download anything yourself.
- Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
- Click More at the bottom of the menu, then Plugins.
- Search for Geyser and Floodgate. Use the filters at the top to filter by name, plugin loader, and Minecraft version.
- Click the download icon on the plugin's tile to install it.
- Restart the server.
Can't find the plugin? Download the
.jarfile yourself from a trusted source and upload it via Files → plugins. See our article How Do I Add a Plugin to My Server? for the full manual steps.
Important: your own port, shared IP address
At Etheron, you share your server's IP address with other customers on the same node. Your server is reachable through that shared IP address with a port specifically assigned to your server, which you can see under Address in the Game Panel.
Note: Do not simply use the default Geyser port 19132 for Bedrock connections. Because you share the IP address with other customers, you are assigned your own port number for the Bedrock connection, which may differ from the default value. Check the correct port number via Address in the Game Panel, or contact us if you are unsure which port to use for Bedrock.
Always give Bedrock players the full address, including the correct port number.
Troubleshooting
- Bedrock players cannot connect: check whether they are using the correct shared IP address together with the specific port assigned to your server for Bedrock, not the standard Java port, and not simply 19132.
- Player names show strange characters: this sometimes happens with Floodgate names, this is usually fixable through the Floodgate settings.
- Bedrock players cannot place certain blocks: some Java-only blocks/items are not (fully) supported on Bedrock, this is a limitation of Geyser, not of your server.
