Installing NeoForge on Your Minecraft Server

Explains how to install the NeoForge mod loader on your Minecraft server through the Game Panel so you can run mods.

In this article, we explain how to install NeoForge on your Minecraft server, so you can add your own mods.

What is NeoForge?

NeoForge is a mod loader forked from Forge, with a more modern setup for mod developers. More and more new modpacks and mods use NeoForge instead of the classic Forge.

Note: NeoForge mods do not work on Forge, and vice versa. Always check on the mod's page (for example CurseForge or Modrinth) which loader a mod exactly requires.

Installing NeoForge

  1. Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
  2. Make a backup first via Backups → Create Backup.
  3. Click More > Version Changer in the menu.
  4. Choose NeoForge as the server software.
  5. Select the desired Minecraft version and NeoForge build.
  6. Click View, then Install.

Note: Do not check WIPE SERVER FILES unless you deliberately want a completely clean server.

  1. Wait until the installation is complete and start the server.

Adding mods

  1. Download the desired NeoForge mod (.jar) from, for example, CurseForge or Modrinth.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. Place the file via the File Manager or SFTP in the mods folder.
  4. Restart the server.

Troubleshooting

  • Server does not start: check whether the mod is built for NeoForge and not the classic Forge, these are two different systems.
  • Players cannot connect: make sure players use the same NeoForge version and mods.
