Installing EssentialsX and Vault for an Economy System
Explains how to install EssentialsX and Vault on your Minecraft server to use an economy system with in-game currency.
Want an economy system with in-game currency on your server? In this article, we explain how to install EssentialsX and Vault.
What are EssentialsX and Vault?
- EssentialsX is a plugin bundle with, among other things, commands, kits, warps, and its own economy system.
- Vault is a "connection layer" that allows different economy, permission, and chat plugins to work together. Many plugins require Vault to be able to use EssentialsX's economy.
Note: EssentialsX and Vault are built for Spigot/Paper servers with plugins, not for mod servers (Forge/Fabric/Quilt/NeoForge).
Installing via the Plugin Manager
The easiest way to install plugins is through our built-in Plugin Manager. You don't have to download anything yourself.
- Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
- Click More at the bottom of the menu, then Plugins.
- Search for EssentialsX and Vault. Use the filters at the top to filter by name, plugin loader, and Minecraft version.
- Click the download icon on the plugin's tile to install it.
- Restart the server.
Can't find the plugin? Download the
.jarfile yourself from a trusted source and upload it via Files → plugins. See our article How Do I Add a Plugin to My Server? for the full manual steps.
Configuring
- The economy settings of EssentialsX can be found in
plugins/Essentials/config.yml. - Many economy, shop, and jobs plugins detect EssentialsX via Vault automatically, with no extra configuration needed.
Troubleshooting
- "Vault" shows an error in the console: check whether both EssentialsX and Vault are installed and whether you are using Paper/Spigot.
- Economy plugin does not detect EssentialsX: check whether Vault is correctly installed and whether the server versions of all plugins match.
