Setting Up Your Own Reseller Packages: Practical Examples
Practical example packages and tips for setting up your own hosting packages as a reseller in DirectAdmin.
As a reseller, you decide which hosting packages you offer to your customers. In this article, we give practical examples to help you get started.
Creating a package
- Log in to your reseller account via
yourreseller.com:2222. - Go to Reseller Level and click Package Manager.
- Click Create Package.
- Enter a clear name, for example
Starter,Business, orPremium. - Set disk space, bandwidth, number of domains, databases, and email accounts.
- Save the package.
- Then set the CloudLinux limits (CPU, RAM, I/O, IOPS, EP, NPROC) for this package. See our article How Do CloudLinux Limits Work for Reseller Hosting? for an explanation per setting.
Practical example packages
Starter (for simple websites)
- Disk space: 5 GB
- Domains: 1
- CPU: 100% / RAM: 1 GB / EP: 20 / NPROC: 100
- Suitable for: a simple website or a customer who is just starting out.
Business (for active websites/webshops)
- Disk space: 25 GB
- Domains: 5
- CPU: 200% / RAM: 2 GB / EP: 30 / NPROC: 150
- Suitable for: WordPress sites, smaller webshops, customers with multiple domains.
Premium (for heavy or multiple websites)
- Disk space: 50 GB or more
- Domains: unlimited
- CPU: 300% / RAM: 4 GB / EP: 50 / NPROC: 200
- Suitable for: high-traffic webshops, agencies with multiple client websites on one account.
Note: These examples are a starting point. Tailor your own packages to your target audience and pricing strategy, and take into account the total resources available within your own reseller package.
Tips for setting up packages
- Keep the number of packages manageable. Three to four clear packages work better than ten nearly identical variants.
- Work with packages, not with separate exceptions. See our article Adjusting Limits for One Specific Customer (CloudLinux Override) for when an individual exception does make sense.
- Regularly check your customers' resource usage to see whether packages still fit well. See our article Viewing Resource Usage of Your Reseller Customers.
Troubleshooting
- Creating a package fails: check whether the configured values aren't higher than what's available within your own reseller account.
- Existing customers don't automatically get the new package settings: changes to a package usually don't automatically apply retroactively to customers who were already on an older version of the package, check this per customer.
