Changing the PHP Version via Select PHP Version (CloudLinux)

Explains how to change the PHP version of your website via Select PHP Version, powered by CloudLinux, in DirectAdmin.

Some websites or plugins require a specific PHP version. In this article, we explain how to change this via Select PHP Version, powered by CloudLinux.

Changing the PHP version

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via yourwebsite.com:2222.
  2. Navigate to Select PHP Version (CloudLinux).
  3. Choose the desired domain, if you have multiple domains on your account.
  4. Select the desired PHP version from the list.
  5. Click Save or Switch.

Note: Not every PHP version is suitable for every website. Check with your CMS or plugins (for example WordPress plugins) which PHP versions are supported before switching.

Checking PHP extensions

Via Select PHP Version, you can also see which PHP extensions are active per version, and easily enable or disable individual modules. See our article How Do I Install PHP Extensions? if you need a specific extension.

Troubleshooting

  • Website shows a blank page or fatal error after changing: this often points to incompatibility with the new PHP version. Switch the PHP version back and check the error messages in the logs.
  • Plugin or theme no longer works: check with the plugin/theme developer which PHP versions are supported.
