Creating a Subdomain in DirectAdmin
Explains how to create a subdomain in DirectAdmin, for example blog.yourdomain.com.
A subdomain is an extra part placed before your domain name, for example blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. In this article, we explain how to create one in DirectAdmin.
Creating a subdomain
- Log in to DirectAdmin via
yourwebsite.com:2222. - Navigate under Account Manager to Domain Setup, or click on your domain and choose Subdomain Management.
- Enter the desired prefix under Subdomain name, for example
blog. - Click Create.
The subdomain automatically gets its own folder, usually found under public_html/blog (or the name you chose).
Uploading files to the subdomain
- Upload your files via the File Manager or FTP to the subdomain's folder.
- Make sure there is an
index.htmlorindex.phpin this folder, otherwise the subdomain won't show any content.
Note: It can take a few minutes to an hour after creation before the subdomain is reachable everywhere, this is related to DNS propagation.
Troubleshooting
- Subdomain shows an error or empty page: check whether files are actually present in the correct folder.
- Subdomain not reachable yet: wait some time due to DNS propagation, or check whether your domain points to the correct nameservers.
