Creating an A Record in DirectAdmin

Explains how to create an A record in DirectAdmin to point a (sub)domain to an IP address.

An A record links a domain or subdomain to an IP address. In this article, we explain how to create one in DirectAdmin.

Creating an A record

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via yourwebsite.com:2222.
  2. Navigate to DNS Management.
  3. Choose the correct domain.
  4. Click Add Record and choose the A type.
  5. Enter the (sub)domain you're creating the record for under Name, or leave this empty for the root domain.
  6. Enter the IP address you want the domain to point to under Value/Destination.
  7. Click Add Record or Save.

Note: For web hosting, usually use the IP address of your own web hosting account. Don't know the correct IP address? Contact us.

Troubleshooting

  • (Sub)domain not working yet after creating: DNS changes can take some time (DNS propagation), this can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
  • Wrong page or error when visiting: check whether the IP address is correct, and whether a website for this domain is actually configured at that IP address.
