Setting Up an Email Forward or Alias

Explains how to set up an email forward (alias) in DirectAdmin, so emails are automatically forwarded to another address.

Want emails to, for example, [email protected] to be automatically forwarded to another email address, without creating a full mailbox? That's possible with a forward (alias). In this article, we explain how to set this up.

Creating a forward

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via yourwebsite.com:2222.
  2. Navigate to E-Mail Management and choose Email Forwarding.
  3. Click Create new Forward.
  4. Enter the desired address under Email, for example info.
  5. Enter the email address the emails should be forwarded to under Will go to.
  6. Click Create.

Note: A forward is not a mailbox of its own. You can't log in to webmail with it or send emails from it. Want that too? Create a full email account instead of a forward. See our article How Do I Create an Email Address?

Multiple destinations

You can enter multiple email addresses under Will go to, separated by a comma. The email is then forwarded to all specified addresses.

Troubleshooting

  • Emails not arriving at the destination address: check whether the destination address is correct and whether the emails are not ending up in the spam folder of the receiving address.
  • Forward doesn't seem to work for new messages: it can take a few minutes before a new forward becomes active.
