Installing Softaculous Apps on Your Web Hosting

Explains how to use Softaculous to easily install applications such as WordPress, Joomla, or PrestaShop on your web hosting.

With Softaculous, you install well-known applications such as WordPress, Joomla, PrestaShop, or phpBB with just a few clicks, without having to do this manually. In this article, we explain how this works.

Note: Want to install WordPress specifically? See our article How Do I Install WordPress? for the WordPress-specific steps. This article covers other applications via Softaculous.

Installing an app

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin via yourwebsite.com:2222.
  2. Navigate to Softaculous Apps Installer.
  3. Search for the desired application, or choose it from one of the categories.
  4. Click Install.
  5. Fill in the installation settings:
    • Choose Domain: the domain on which you want to install the app.
    • In Directory: leave this empty to install on the root domain, or enter a folder name for a subfolder.
    • Database Settings: Softaculous automatically creates a database, or you choose an existing one.
    • Admin Account: enter your own username and password for the application's administrator account.
  6. Click Install.

Note: Write down the admin password you set here, you will need it to log in to the application itself.

Managing an installed app

Via Softaculous Apps Installer → Installations, you see all your installed applications. Here you can also update them, create a backup, or remove them.

Troubleshooting

  • Installation fails: check whether the chosen folder already exists and already contains files, in that case install in an empty folder or subfolder.
  • Can't log in after installation: check whether you are using the correct admin password you set during installation.
