Difference Between Budget VPS and Game VPS

Explains the difference between our Budget VPS and Game VPS packages, and which one best fits your goal.

At Etheron, we offer two types of VPS packages: Budget VPS and Game VPS. In this article, we explain the difference, so you make the right choice.

Budget VPS

A Budget VPS is a general-purpose virtual server, suitable for almost any purpose:

  • Installing your own operating system (Linux or Windows)
  • Running web hosting, applications, or development environments
  • Installing Game Panel servers for games
  • Full control over your server (root/administrator access)

Game VPS

A Game VPS is specifically tailored to running game servers:

  • Often comes with the Game Panel by default for easy game management
  • Hardware/resources tuned to the load of game servers (for example higher CPU clock speeds, important for games like Minecraft and Valheim)
  • Ready to use for games via the Game Panel, without having to manually install everything yourself

Which should I choose?

  • Only want to run a game server (Minecraft, Valheim, or another game)? Choose a Game VPS.
  • Want your own operating system, web hosting, or another application, or want full control over the server yourself? Choose a Budget VPS.
  • Not sure between the two? A Game VPS can in most cases also be used as a regular VPS, but a Budget VPS does not have the Game Panel installed by default.

Troubleshooting

  • Not sure which package fits your workload: contact us, we're happy to advise which package fits best.
  • Game Panel not available on your VPS: check whether you ordered a Game VPS, or ask via a ticket whether this can still be installed.
