Making a Backup of Your Valheim World
Explains how to make a backup of your Valheim world through the Game Panel, and why this matters before major changes.
In this article, we explain how to make a backup of your Valheim world, for example before installing mods, switching to BepInEx, or adjusting world modifiers.
Note: Always make a backup before making major changes. A backup is the only way to go back if something goes wrong.
Making a backup
- Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
- Click Backups on the left.
- Click Create Backup in the top right.
- Give the backup a clear name, for example
before-bepinex-switch. - Click Start Backup and wait until it has fully completed.
Restoring a backup
Did something go wrong? Through the menu to the right of a backup in the list, you can download, restore, or delete it.
Note: Restoring a backup overwrites the current world files. The server is automatically stopped for this.
Troubleshooting
- Cannot create a backup: contact us, we will arrange this for you.
- Backup takes a long time: this depends on the size of your world, large worlds with a lot of explored area take longer to back up.
