In this article, we explain how to connect to your Valheim server via Steam.

Method 1. Connect directly via IP address (recommended)

1. Log in to the Game Panel and select your server.
2. Copy the Address (IP address with port) from the right sidebar. See our article Where Can I Find the IP of My Game Server? if you cannot find this.
3. Launch Valheim via Steam.
4. In the main menu, go to Start Game or Join Game.
5. Choose the option to connect manually via IP address and enter the address, including the port number.
6. Enter the server password, if set.

Method 2. Via the server list (only if your server is public)

1. Launch Valheim via Steam.
2. Go to Join Game and open the server list.
3. Search for your server name. See our article How Do I Change the Name of a Valheim Server? if you are not sure what your server is called.
4. Click your server and enter the password.

Note: Is your server not showing in the list? Check whether the Public/Community Server option is enabled in the server settings. If it is off, always use Method 1 (directly via IP address).

Troubleshooting

• Server not responding or connection times out: check whether you are using the correct IP address with the port number.
• Incorrect password message: check the configured password via Startup in the Game Panel.
• Server not showing in the public list: this can take a few minutes after a (re)start, or the server is set to not public.
